WillChain

How it works

How WillChain works

Four roles, one rule: confirmations can speed things up, but only you can stop them.

Who does what

Owner

Writes the will, funds it and can change anything, or stop a declaration, while alive.

Guardians

Accept the role, then one day confirm the owner's passing. They never touch the funds.

Beneficiaries

The people and causes who receive the estate, in the shares the owner chose.

Estate administrator

Receives the estate record and settles everything outside the will with the notary.

The life of a will

Every will moves through the same stages. The dashed paths are the ones only the owner can take.

  1. Draft

    Private, free to edit

  2. Inactive

    Waiting for guardians

  3. Active

    All guardians accepted

  4. Window running

    A guardian confirmed

  5. Executable

    Window elapsed

  6. Executed

    Estate released

Proof of life: Window running → Active

Cancel: Inactive, Active, Window running → Canceled

Play with the window

Set your window, then confirm as each guardian. Watch the date move.

Day 7
Day 30

Guardians

Nobody has confirmed. Nothing is running.

Wait = maximum − (maximum − minimum) × confirmed weight ÷ total weight

What happens at execution

Once the window has elapsed, any guardian can execute. Four things happen in one transaction.

  1. 01

    Snapshot

The balances held by the will are recorded at a block, for the estate administrator.

  2. 02

    Conversion

Every asset is swapped into a stablecoin, so heirs don't inherit a market swing.

  3. 03

    Lock

The stablecoins are locked in the testament contract. From here the will is final.

  4. 04

    Release

Each beneficiary receives their share, or the total goes to the owner's pre-linked estate account through a regulated off-ramp.

The rules that protect you

Guardians can't block, only you can.
Confirmations only ever shorten the wait. The single way to stop a declaration is the owner's proof of life.
A veto buys you three days of quiet.
After a proof of life, no guardian can declare again for three days, so you can update the will in peace.
Nothing moves before the minimum.
Even if every guardian confirms within the hour, the estate waits at least the minimum you chose.
After the window, it's final.
Once executed, nobody can alter the will, not even WillChain.
